So what’s been going on?
It’s been a while since I posted anything here and with me being off work for vacation, I thought I’d throw in some updates between my endless house decorating.
L4DoD
The regular co-cop version has ended its production cycle. I don’t feel there’s much more I want to do with it simply because it isn’t as much fun for me to play and I’m fed up with players using it purely as an achievement plugin. They simply don’t want to cap flags, rise to the challenge of defeating Zombie hordes.
They just want to sit in windows, where the Zombies can’t reach and shoot Zombie after Zombie, bitching and whining when a Zombie kills them with a shovel, or the Witch comes up behind them.
So there will be no further updates.
L4DoD Versus
This is simply fun to play. If players want to sit back and cap flags, well, they have four opposing Zombie players who will cap back. Wanna get achievements, well, then you are going to have a challenge because these Zombies can go through doors and hallways!
It still requires a lot of tweaking and the balance is not quite right, but it is getting much better. It is very much still in Beta because the game testing in this needs a lot of work.
For example last night, I was playing as Grey Dude and I was cutting through the Allies like butter, and yet, while playing as Witch, I couldn’t get near the Allies because of the low health. So I have to figure out that stuff too.
In the meantime, I’m working on ESP for the human Zombies so that they can see where all the Allied players are through walls, etc. I have also added a health read-out since the human Zombie doesn’t know how much health he has..
So watch this space!

First off, just want to say “GREAT MOD.” It is my favorite.
The thing about the co-op play is that it is too easy for Allies to capture the flags on every map except Avalanche, which is near impossible, in my experience. That last zombie spawn point by the first flag is always filled with zombies that even if you can get to it, the capture is blocked. I’ve been playing almost every night and I just can’t win on Avalanche.
For every other map, I think zombies should learn not to line up when running at you. Many times, I can get 3 heads with one shot. Additionally, maybe include more Grey Dudes (I really hate them, but I love them at the same time).
Anyway, just thought I would post my input.
Again, thanks for the great work.

Oh yeah, one more thing, one versus play, The Infected shouldn’t be able to capture flags when he’s invisible.

No way around it.
It’s difficult to prevent individual players from capping.
Fortunately he’s easy to kill.

Yeah…Ava and the flag beside the Zombie spawn…
Avalanche is a strange map because it has so many doorways and archways that bots don’t want to go through. VALVe didn’t add decide collision detection to DoDS bots. So get around that, I teleport them to the first point.
To makes things easier, the next update will change the way bots move when on fire.
They will become disoriented and will not target players when on fire. So a couple of Molotovs in the spawn area will make it easier.
Having said all that, I have won on Avalanche many times with good coordinated play.

Dog,
Thanks for the response.
Yeah, I finally won Avalanche as well. I was playing with a couple friends and we really pushed for it. Like you said, many ppl don’t try to cap flags. Oh well. But, it’s still fun as heck.

Also, as Sonic requested. If you do ever release it, please let me know. I want to start a server just for this plugin.
Thanks.

Could you create a bot plugin for original DODS gameplay. I badly needed one for practice shooting as the official bot is useless.
Thanks.

Actually I have more of a question and I don’t know where to ask it. For starters, I love this mod. Its absolutely one of my favorite mod/games to play right now. My question is, is there anyway to make my own LAN server with this mod? Or is this the Ville own special thing?

For now it is.
I have plans to bring out a simple bot mod for SourceMod and it may happen after May.

Very cool. I look forward to that! Thanks for responding so quick. Really though, as I said earlier, I have Killing Floor, Left4Dead and this. Of the three I enjoy playing this the most.
